Newry High School

A ‘printmaking workshop’ took place on Wednesday 14 December in the Art & Design Department at Newry High School. Bill Penney, an Associate Lecturer in Printmaking and Head of Admissions Tutor for Foundation Course in Art & Design in the University of Ulster in Belfast, visited the school to give a talk to our students about portfolios and interviews. He then facilitated a printmaking workshop in the afternoon. Bill is a highly experienced printmaker and whilst he currently works in the University of Ulster, his reputation and skills as a printmaker far outreach Northern Ireland. Bill exhibits work both nationally and internationally and has represented the United Kingdom at the prestigious Ljubljana Print Biennale and “Britain meets the Bay” at the Centre of Arts in San Francisco. He also recently exhibited in the Sean Holywood Arts Centre with both Mrs Young and Mrs Houston (both art teachers in Newry High school).

The Newry High students were joined with six art students from The Abbey Grammar school.
