Teaching Time

Key Stage 3                4 periods a week
                                                   1 period   - Local and Global Citizenship
                                                   1 period   - Personal Development and Employability
                                                   2 periods - Home Economics
GCSE                          4 periods a week

Content includes:

Learning for Life and Work forms the base for the entire revised curriculum at Key Stage 3 and all other subjects are required to address the key elements of LLW during their teaching.

GCSE:

4 Modules:

  • Personal Development - this includes a healthy lifestyle (healthy eating, smoking, alcohol, drugs and importance of exercise), self esteem and relationships, and financial responsibility.
  • Local and Global Citizenship - this includes diversity and inclusion, human rights, and democracy.
  • Employability - this includes preparing for employment, enterprise and self employment, and the local and global economy.
  • Controlled Assessment - pupils must complete 2 investigative reports.

Key Stage 3:

Similar topics to GCSE are covered in Key Stage 3 with the addition of Home Economics.

Trips and Visiting Speakers

Year 12 pupils visit Parliament Buildings at Stormont as part of the Citizenship module to learn about how the Northern Ireland Assembly works.

Visiting speakers come in occasionally to address certain issues e.g. PSNI help with drugs education, Simon Community speak about homelessness, NICCY address children's rights, Woman's Aid deal with self esteem and relationship issues.
